Before you can use the cheats (a.k.a. dev commands), you have to add a "launch argument"... that is, in your Steam library, right-click on Valheim, select Properties, and find Launch Options under the General tab. In this field, type “-console” (without quotes).

That just enables your ability to use the devcommands. Now when you are in the game, you can press F5 to open the console, type “devcommands” (without quotes) to enable cheats, and then enter whatever command you like (such as ghost).

There are a ton of things you can do, buy honestly "ghost" is about the only one I use to get out of a seemingly impossible position. However you can also go wild with "god" mode and be invincible.
