I've done this, actually. I found a VERY small speck of land and raised some land around it to form a base just above where high waves can't reach in bad weather. I then built a stone structure on the raised area and didn't leave any excess room around the raised base.

Monsters don't spawn near or on my island. When invasions occur on the island I receive the notification of the invasion but, since there's nowhere for the monsters to spawn at and since they can't just wade across deep water, the invasion always ends after a minute or two.

If you built a larger island you'd possibly create area for monsters to spawn during an invasion, but if you keep things just large enough for a medium-sized tower it's basically impervious. I use mine as a storehouse for all of my crafting materials since it's safe there.

thanks for sharing! can u make a test on ur island, destroy everything that prevent Mob to spawn, would be an interesting phenomenon if Mob can spawn here ( excluding Events)
