If carrots or turnips take damage they're destroyed. But with barley and flax, damage just harvests it, so you can use a bronze atgier and middle-click to harvest it really fast. I keep an atgier hanging next to my cultivator on the wall by my crops.

dude , i was meaning about uses of barley on food , not their harvest
4 flours for each plain food and 10 for breads , my reply was for carrots and turnips do not needs so much farm for only one player and thats true , but not for end game food thats uses a lot of barley ( and i have a farm with 400 barley for each harvest , that i use iron sledge for that long ago ) , plus waits that windmill do their job after the harvest
