I had a similar thing happen when I was taming wolves. I had 2 in a pen and somehow one disappeared. Thought it was killed. 20 days or so later I return to the same area to find a wolf 97% tamed. Tamed a two-star wolf, got another random and bred them. Once I got several two stars I took 4 down to my gf's base for her. 3 made it.

Well, several in game days later, she has probably two dozen of them patrolling outside the base. Their breeding gets out of control if not monitored lol.

There is NOTHING roaming around her base but the wolves. No deer, no greatness, no trolls... Not a damn thing.
