I tame wild boars by letting them chase me into a pre-built taming pen. They are quite predictable. The long fence path thing seems like a time consuming way to do something easy - heck, you essentially run to your taming location.

It's the tamed ones that seem programmed to completely piss you off. Without a harpoon it's like pushing a noodle and pushing is about all you can do. The torch thing seems to just make tamed boars run around like crazy - irrational panic. I recently built a boar breeding tower and getting the tames into position was as close as I've come to rage quitting.

I'm actually glad that the tamed boars seem to have some personality rather than just being meat sacks. Another facet on the jewel of Valheim.
