Your entertaining story is a glorious testament to a no-spoilers play-through. I say that because of all the things you did 'wrong'. However, 'wrong' in this case is from the viewpoint of looking back in time rather than being stupid. It's quite likely you had more fun and thrills than people that spent hours on youtube watching play-throughs and looking up tips and tricks before they spawned in the 1st time. I largely avoided spoilers myself and it allows for the thrill of discovery to last much longer.
