Perhaps some people don't like using portals? The only thing to remember when bed-hoping on a long course, is to always rebuild and claim a bed after you destroyed it for any reason (get resource, free the way, move it elsewhere, ...), unless you exactly know where you'll next spawn (including upon reconnection).
