Yeah they don't despawn after the event is finished now. Kinda like it and kinda don't. Is good to not chase down fleeing mobs at end of event but if i don't feel like fighting I wait till events finished and then kill them so I don't have to repeatedly take out mob after mob, it deinsentifies me to actively defend/attack the mobs during event
