Might be some *very* peculiar map location, mob spawns are pretty random (besides the static ones, that diappear after getting cleared once).
I had that happen once in mistlands, a place where every new day a big mob spawned consistently. It happened nowhere else. So yeah you just got RNGd.
Tbh most of us here would salivate at the thought of a troll spawner like that. Infinite resources, infinite workers to dig copper or chop trees with. Just perfect.
As for swamp, sound travels far. If you make too much noise things will slowly gather around you. So you either kill it fast enough till its clear or find a calm initial location.
As for spawners they often come in groups. That is 2+1 being one location and there is good chance there will be few more of those 2+1 in proximity. Its again all RNG thou. There are places that are really chill for quite a long distance.
Best is to carefuly scout the area from afar and dont jump in at first "nice looking landing spot". Find a neighbouring biome, land there and go into the swamp on foot.
The downside of all that are difficulty spikes and what looks like poor balance, the upside is replayability. In fact each time i start new world i end up liking swamps more and more. Its all about experiance.
