In the beginning, you just try to stay alive. You can't starve, you can't die of thirst. You can easily kill boars to get meat and leather, because they will attack you. Forget deer for now until you have a bow or learn how to sneak. It's actually a lot of fun.

Especially once you got the abyssal knife and can one-shot trolls from behind. ;)

Get berries, get mushrooms, get neck tails for meat.

Build a small shelter! Very important.
