mistlands base is an outpost, I will probably never build there for a real base.
my endgame base is tiny, just a 6x6 square with storage attic and an inaccessible basement holding all the junk I don't want in my way (like a throne, banner, armor rack, etc for comfort and the non interactive crafting stations like butcher table, tool rack, etc). I can make or repair anything there, and for farming I portal out. Ive got a chest with all the materials for on-demand smelt / kiln/windmill if I need them, but they are not up most of the time. It leads to a fishing/boat dock with storage, fire/chair/portal/roof where I can rest to keep fishing and launch a boat. Moat around it but the water side lets mobs up ... but they have to swim past a pair of ballistae to get there so they don't.

It suits me much better than any huge build I ever did. Its tidy and practical. That doesn't keep me from making big castles, I just don't 'live' in those anymore.
