Iron is by far the most in-demand metal, especially since Padded Armor set takes substantial amounts of iron as well. You at least get feathers from chopping trees sometimes so that helps offset a bit and thistle is found in both Black Forest and Swamps so that helps, but it is very frequently used in good food recipes, yeah.
