If corpses despawn , it's also a recent addition, because corpses used to last indefinitely (never despawn) so you could find your body days later... I have personally done that.

as i said i've only read it. never tried to find out myself cuz i don't die that often. and if i can't retrieve my corpse in a span of 10 minutes (duration of the "no skills losts" buff)... i usually give up and\or call for help of friends.
