This happened yesterday to me.

Was just running around exploring the biomes, had an upgraded bow and all leather equipped, as I was climbing some mountains, I fell into a pit sorrounded by high stone and couldn't get out of there. My options: Drown myself and respawn. Well, lost all my items and had to kill the boars again to get a bow, luckily it was at the start and not now that I'm full geared with bronze items, but still a pain, my only way to get a bow was to kill boars melee again until I got the scraps for it, lost about 2 hours of gameplay
