I build a base on the border of plains and mistlands, and put the farm on the dividing line so I can grow all plants in the same area. You have to be careful, though, there are many places in mistlands that you cannot cultivate.

A side benefit, if you find a spot like I did this last time, plains mobs make great rabbit killers. You can eat for a week after one deathsquito passthrough. Even the lox do their part.

This works, but just to point it out: you can build a small portal base around an infested mine ir dvergr tower and plant your mistlands plants there. It is less pleasing Philosophically than having a plains/mistland border area base with everything though. But it's still very practical.
