ah thanks guys for your help and blue for putting into context. i honestly didnt pay too much attention to the stats and just presumed all the latest unlocks would automatically have all the best stats.
i should have looked at the stats more and not rushed to upgrade to bronze armor and not noticing the movement penalty.

it might have been both that and my slower movement as when i killed trolls i would trap it behind and object and keep moving to so it would have to go round it while i kept pumping it with arrows, but when i died it got round it before i could get round it and yeah it did do club swings and take me out in seconds.
