Not sure when it was ever unsafe. Maybe if you were using the exact same name, but I've made a dozen characters without any issue.

thank you for answering.... I have played right from the beginning with only one character because I tried once and it said it might not be safe to do that.... I play without mods ..
I have now made a second character :) thanks for helping
