There are four types of wood, so far. Plain wood one gets from chopping saplings, beech trees and fir trees. Fine wood one gets from chopping birch trees and oak trees. Core wood one gets from chopping pine trees. Ancient bark one gets from chopping ancient trees in the swamp. Please note that some of the wood one gets from birch, oak, and pine trees will be plain wood.
One needs a metal axe to chop birch, oak, pine and ancient trees.
Pine trees and fir trees look very similar. The easy way to tell the difference at distance is that a pine tree will not have branches on the lowest few meters of its trunk and will generally be much taller than a fir tree.
The term "core wood" derives from those long, straight, branch-less trunks. Wood at the core of those trunks must be very strong to hold the weight of a tall tree.
