You don't need to block a Fuling. Just wait until he attacks and then make 2 steps back. When the Furling successfully hits the air start counter-attack and kill him with your 3-combo attack. If you get used to this tactic even 2x2* Fulings at once are easy (but still risky). I pefer using swords in the plains because of the small knockback.

yeah well then remove armor and shields entirely if we're just supposed to Bloodborne the entire game.
