I find it annoying that the mistland plants don't grow outside of mistland (understandable), but you can't grow anything else in mistlands.

I build a base on the border of plains and mistlands, and put the farm on the dividing line so I can grow all plants in the same area. You have to be careful, though, there are many places in mistlands that you cannot cultivate.

A side benefit, if you find a spot like I did this last time, plains mobs make great rabbit killers. You can eat for a week after one deathsquito passthrough. Even the lox do their part.
