It took me around a dozen or so deaths but now I can safely take on 2 Deathsquito's at once wearing troll armor and farm needles to my heart content. Tbh the worst thing that can happen to you while traversing the Plains is the "You are being Hunted" scenario.
That is in almost all cases instant (and multiple) death(s).

Goblins (Fulings) aren't that much of a threat except the shaman (heat seeking missles) and spear chucker who can throw them at you from a distance a bowman is jealous of. lol
