I kinda have to agree that raids killing the chicken feels extra punishing since they take quite some time to multiply and the eggs are extremely expensive. I got my first ever the cauldron stirs raid after I just set up my chicken coop so I didn't even know that existed. I had put up a roof and thought that was enough because I was only expecting wyvern raids and had left open a little window. Of course they were all slaughtered. I was lucky enough to still have enough gold for 2 more eggs and made sure that my chicken coop was airtight afterwards.

If you want you can enable devcommands in the steam launch options and cheat in some eggs or the gold to buy them.
