Until the new setting go in, there's a mod for that.

I got rid of the skill loss but kept the corpse runs. I've never liked that as a mechanic in any game I've played, and even those games didn't dock you more than one level at a time. Corpse runs add a fun challenge, but thinking about my numbers is not immersive.
