Makes me worried about the direction the developers are taking. It didn't break the game, it didn't ruin anybody's fun, it just added something silly to do. It resulted in death 99% of the time, so who cares? I'm worried it's just another case of a developer saying "yOu'rE NoT PlAyInG ThE GaMe iN ThE WaY We wAnT YoU To." It's becoming way too common these days.

They merely fixed something they felt wasn't working as intended... nothing more than that.

Very likely that they felt the "rubber band effect" was affecting the usage it was actually meant for.

If fixing an unwanted game mechanic "worries you", and you think they should keep whimsical "side fun that gets you killed 99% of the time" then your priorities are messed up.
