They won't breed while you are away, only when you are in close proximity to them. To answer this directly: If you have a boar pen set up at a farm at your house in the same dwelling, and you feed them, wait a few minutes for them to breed & they will produce at least 2 piggies, or sometimes 3, but depends on space of their enclosure, not frightened, eaten, etc. Hey, me again, sorry to ask yet another question.
Boars. I'm running sorta low on meat. I've been wondering, do animals continue to breed and stuff "off-screen"? Like, my new house is in a.. fairly distant area, and I'm wondering if I feed them and wait around a bit will piglets be born later? Or do I have to be there for that entire process?
There has to be at least 2 adult Boars eating & being in very close proximity to each other to breed, (you could seperate them from the others with roundpole fences) and also not too many other boars in the same space (5 meters i think is the distance) otherwise they will eat & mate but won't breed if it gets too crowded. Same rule applies to other tames, except Lox I think need even more room.
Having a remote breeder/pen also helps keep them in the same spot, so you can go to the pen any time you like to cull them for Boar Meat & Leather Scraps, and feed them at the same time. They are difficult to transport by boat so whatever landmass you find them on I would strongly advise to staying on the same landmass & setting up shop there.
They can be relocated on land however, with the harpoon & FF turned on so you can drag them to where you need if this is the case. (I do this as it can be beneficial to have multiple breeding areas, in case of raids) Some later raids can & will target your tames if they don't have a direct bead on you, so breeding a remote farm is advisable somewhat, especially given the rarity of 1 & 2 star boars spawn frequency...
