Mate I started this when it was first available and yes there was some changes made before heart n home that required people to use new worlds seeds to take advantage of it, I simply dont remember what it was though if it was a new biome or new structures or somesuch...its been awhile.

They added tar to the plains. That is it. In order to see it you had to go to unexplored land, definitely don't have to start a new world.
