Replace your pigskin clothing with deer-hide to prepare for the first boss. Also I recommend making a bow and arrows (wood arrows are fine). The boss' ranged attack doesn't hurt very much if you stay far away from him so the bow is a good bet before you've worked out the finer details of blocking, managing stamina, etc.
