Lol game is balanced? tier 4 Iron atgeir.
Why do so many people defend a game that isn't even finished? They will probably add and change a bunch of things making the game much better. The game is great for beta but needs a lot of improvements and gameplay options. For me the make or break is a gameplay option for the absurd crafting costs for equipment. Like what is so hard or exciting about hitting rocks and trees and why is it so slow? The game has 0 flexibility and that makes people lime me like it at first but then quit because of the things they don't like about it drain the enjoyment.
The game isn't hard it is just annoying it almost feels like the game doesn't want me to play it.
Example: Somebody dies, they drop all of their stuff, This is considered "Punishment" Why? Because it wastes their time? Okay so running back to grab the stuff and backtracking is punishment? It's boring? It forces you to do something they don't want? So what is the alternative? Success? Yes that is what I had today! I got and bunch of silver and (Unusable for now) black mental!
So now I am rewarded with progression and new equipment? Nope the portal shuts off and the game says LOL GO BACKTRACK HALF WAY ACROSS THE MAP WITH BOAT. Some people on the forums will say, "LOL ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS BUILD A 2ND BASE." Uh excuse me? isn't that what happens when you die or your base is destroyed? ya know punishment? sailing/backtracking is so boring and mining more low tier crap to rebuild what you already have. So you waste time or waste time. Even worse is when you finally are able to use the materials you end up with barely anything due to the high crafting costs.
This entire problem can easily be fixed by added gameplay options. Not changing the game an OPTION. There are many ways of doing this. It doesn't do much good to go into details because like I said at the beginning, the game is still in beta and many things will improve.
Or you could do what some people do and not play the game intended, exploit the game and fix the problem that way. Then call it good because you fixed the problem by exploiting the game. Just setup another base in a another world and teleport it that way.... I feel like many are doing things like that. So in a strange way it is already an "Option".
When I play the game it is a constantly giving me mixed feelings, I should just take a massive break and come back many years from now when it is done.
I known many of you enjoy this game as is and I think that is great. I enjoy it too but I really think overall the game feels fun with a bunch of not fun things and as of now the not fun things are outweighing the fun things. I really feel if they add gameplay options after they finish making all the zones that the game will be fun for me too.
I am only going to reply to short quotes with short responses. Or not at all....
Most of the fans that always respond have good reasons for liking the game and I feel like nothing really needs to be said to me but if you really want I will read the short responses. No game advice or argument will make me change my mind though...
TLDL: I mined some silver today and thought about the trip back or making another base or using another world to craft and just said, "Meh, This game isn't really doing it fore me time for a long break."
I used to have this mindset, until i changed how i played the game, now i get much more enjoyment out of it.
The game isn't a race to the finish, its' the journey. You don't need to plow to the next age, instead why not build up the infrastructure and bases needed to move all the ore? you don't need to mine all the Bronze or iron in your first run, you mine some, build up your forward base, get enough for a large haul, then take a boat trip back, load up your cart on the port you made earlier, move it along the road you built for the effort, and then smelt it when you get back.
I've had more fun building out the infrastructure than i have actually building the items. If your goal is to just plow through the game in a linear fashion, then yes, i agree with your frustrations, but I don't really think that is how the game is designed to be played. If anything i've found it annoying that once i build up my roads and forward outposts, they go obsolete once i've mined enough.
The one part i will agree with is the drop items on death mechanic, If you die in a bad spot it can absolutely ruin your game, and i will 100% agree that sailing a raft against the wind for 45 mins while naked doesn't make for fun gameplay.
At the end of the day, you can always put in devcommands / debugmode and cheat your way through stuff you don't like. I've done this myself sometimes, mostly when i die in a stupid spot for a stupid reason and don't feel like spending my limited game time slowly getting my stuff back.
