After they wiggle for the first time there's no moment when it is possible to pull, they either wiggle or idle in one place and in both cases pulling just drain stamina

The update was suppose to make reeling when they are not thrashing around consume LESS stamina. So the idea is to wait for when they idle and pull, stop when they thrash, then pull again when they are idle.

Maybe you caught a level 3 or higher fish, those consume huge amounts of stamina to reel regardless. Bring a Medium Stamina Potion to refill stamina bar and not lose your catch if you get a higher level one hooked.

But yes, even before the patch catching fish 20m away was not really possible. Best to keep your cast well under 10m.
