I’m playing with a friend, I’m a host, we played every day for a week, everything was fine, now terrible lags began, when the second player nearby all the mobs move in jerks, it’s impossible to parry and dodge, chests and doors open with a delay, while from his side everything works fine, both have good internet, ping in the game shows 30-40, what could be the problem?
Yeah that makes complete sense that every day for a week all was fine. Here is the thing when you host a co op game your PC is now the server. This means that it needs to communicate with your friend every single detail. Once you play for a week and explore more and more of the map is uncovered. You build more and more have more loot more enemy. All of this has to be constantly communicated back and forth between your PC and your friends. The thing is your PC also has to provide all that information for you through your Graphics card. This is a lot for most computers to take on.
What your direct issues sounds like is RAM or lack of RAM. When you start a new server or SP game in Open World Games you start with little RAM usage. As time goes by there is more and more info needed to be stored in that same amount of RAM. Here is where you run into performance issues as your PC is stopping to free old RAM so that it can move information around.
Your options are install more RAM to your PC. Really not hard usually. Perhaps host from your friends PC if he has more RAM. Otherwise rent a server from a Host company like G-Portal.
Keep in mind if your buddy has the same amount of RAM it is unlikely he will host with better results unless maybe if his CPU and storage are really a lot faster than yours.
Then the final part to look at too is internet speeds and reliability. Download speeds are commonly fast but upload is not. Well to host you are sharing information so you are needing fast up and download speeds.
