Pretty sure Lox is Hebrew not actually English. Just a word we incorporated because we can buy it at the grocery store.

DO agree with you though should not have been translated at all. Matter of fact I am of the PERSONAL opinion none of the names should be translated unless it results in a insulting word/phrase thru the magic that is multiple languages. But that's just me.

As a translator myself, I tend towards this more often than not. In this context of fantasy creatures, it doesn't matter if it's heavily localized or not. Those names they already did translate end up being weird anyway.

Definitely "salmon" is a bad choice here for many reasons.
