I'm a big fan of the Atgeir as my end game weapon. I usually run around with that, a sword, porcupine, and buckler just so I can play around with different weapons as I go(and of course bow). The polearm just seems so much better for all of the plains enemies to me.
I really wanted to like Atgeir, but never leveled my Polearm skill enough for them to be effective. Prior to H&H I used Daggers (but never made it to or past the Swamp), after H&H I finally broke down and tried out Clubs.
Other weapons absolutely do have good uses. Despite Clubs being so good, against the current last boss, Silver Sword is inarguably the best. Atgeir have a good AoE for a third attack that, for all I know, may be better than the two Mauls we have, with enough skill levels.
Swords seem to be in the middle in terms of output vs cost. Axes.. well, I like them, but I primarily use one for cutting trees, so the extra durability loss from maining it as a combat weapon always turned me off from using them in combat. (And the two-handed axes I just don't care for, although Crystal Battleaxe is pretty good.)
Bows? Really hoping we get a new one. Draugr Fang is great, and the Poison augmentation is cool to boot. Unsure what a "Bone" variant would offer.. maybe Spirit damage? More Poison as a DoT? Something else as a DoT? Hard to say, but I'm eager to see the new tier of weapons regardless.
I do hope they update the Black Metal tier and at least put in Pickaxes. Iron just doesn't cut it at that point in the game when you're doing so much gathering of Iron, Stone, and possibly Copper & Tin as well. A person could always carry two, yes, but.. it's just tedious. :(
Also still salty there wasn't a Black Metal upgrade for the Iron Sledge.. it could have looked so awesome. Maybe a Maul style instead of a very large hammer, although a large hammer could have looked great too.
Also curious what will happen with Flametal. Mistlands use, or something more later on? Maybe our first two-handed sword will use it.. or maybe they'll incorporate Fire damage in to Mistlands somehow. Feel like Spirit damage would be more highlighted, though.
