For me, I run a server for up to 10 players hosted at home. Normally, there are 3-4 players on at a time. Only 9-10 when we do a boss fight for the first time. Lag is very minimal. My internet provider is Telus and I'm subbed to the Fibre Optic 150MBits up/down plan in Metro Vancouver.

The computer specs:
- Mini-PC
- Windows 10 Professional
- Intel Celeron J4125 (4 Cores/Threads)
- 8GB DDR4 RAM
- 120GB SSD

100% vanilla, no mods. I connect to it via Remote Desktop whenever I need to do stuff like back-ups and stuff. My wife and I watch Netflix from it via HDMI to the television, while the game server app is running, and no one has reported any heightened lag on it.

PS: my dog walked up to me just now, brushed his face against my leg, then as I went down to pet him, he sneezed right into my hands... Wonderful.

I have a decade old HP server box put aside for game hosting and network storage, 4 thread Intel Xeon CPU, 16G Ram, cost us about $150, it's been more than up to the job for four players with the Serverside Simulation and Compess (ZDO Data) mods. Server is CPU light but network traffic heavy, so the main bottleneck is your internet provider.

Remote hosting is extremely location specific, ideally you want word of mouth from other gamers in the same city.
