Yes the biome design is really bad, doubly so considering the well known and documented limitations of the melee mechanisms.

That being said, it's still possible to make it work. I usually switch between porcupine, mistsword, frostner and demolisher. This last one is kind of the "f-k this sh-t, I don't have time for this". It just destroys everything around it, regardless of elevation.
