You had local backups? Try disabling Steam cloud. It may be Steam Cloud that thinks your data is corrupt because it doesn't match what's on the cloud.

(Note to all programmers everywhere writing error messages: Don't write what you think has gone wrong, say what the symptoms are, e.g. "Local file does not match Cloud save," not "Data is corrupt." The latter is an unwarranted assumption.)
