AhI The towers might be in as bad shape as the abandoned wooden buildings. That would explain it, if the walls didn't have their full HP to start with.

They are indeed predamaged. If you think trolls are bad just wait until you reach the plains and have to deal with some of the things that exist there. You'll wonder why you thought trolls were hard.
