The only issue with singleplayer is that building up takes ages, so if you want a base that is gigantic you'll need help unless you got the time.
When the game came out I refunded it because I felt like it was too grindy for me. since then I've purchased it again on sale and I love it. doesn't feel too grindy especially once you figure things out.
Hint: if a troll attacks you, you might as well use this opportunity for your benefit. their swings with their club do damage to trees, so instead of using your stone axe, let them clear a forest trying to get you. then run away before they kill you, come back and collect your wood. way more entertaining than sitting there holding click to take 1 tree at a time.
