  • Bigger Minimap Discovery Radius, if you care about exploring the map fully, instead of leaving little slivers untouched. I use fairly low settings of ×2 of the default radius on foot and ×3 when at the rudder on a boat, you can go up to ×10 but beyond the ones I use you'll miss a lot of ore veins, abandoned structures, etc.
  • Clock, to show the in-game time. You can show it with hh:mm, but I prefer the "fuzzy" setting that says e.g. "late afternoon"
  • Inventory HUD Info, adds info on how many slots and how much weight you're carrying to the main play screen, not just the inventory
  • Mass Farming, just makes farming larger amounts a lot less finicky. This is probably the most "cheaty" of my mods IMO, more than the minimap one.
  • Quick Cart, adds a hotcut for the cart which works within a configurable distance.
  • Quick Store or Quick Stack - Store - Sort - Trash - Restock. Haven't used these much yet (just tried the first one a couple of times but it needs a bit of setup to e.g. not stack arrows away from your inventory), but either should really help with sorting stuff into chests. If you've played Terraria or Stardew Valley, for example, these should feel familiar.
  • Show Container Contents, shows a list of container contents on mouseover

Those are all from Nexus. They have two dependencies (mods that are required for them to work), the BePinEx pack which unfortunately I had to get separately from Thunderstore iirc, although I'm not 100% sure if it's absolutely necessary if you have Vortex (Nexus's mod manager/launcher) set up correctly; and Configuration Manager, for doing configuration for setting options on several of those mods.

P.S. I'll have to check out Hoe Radius and Reset Terrain, especially if the latter could possibly help with performance issues around player villages. Although I suspect the main problem is light sources guzzling resources, and then also building blocks also take some, even if you don't dig or level a lot.

P.P.S. Once I get to the plains stage in my singleplayer game, I'll probably enable BlastFurnaceTakesAll, simply because it would help with smithy layout to have the inputs on the same side, and the blast furnace looks cooler too.

I've also looked at More Gates (which adds one more dependency mod too, but it's not a big deal), which adds a decent amount of building pieces, especially doors, windows, gates and trapdoors, but also some others. Unfortunately even having that enabled seems to prevent multiplayer unless the server also has it (I assume), so it's disabled for now.
