I noticed that mine go out if I have a roof too close above them. Like I have standing torches that are fine, but ones I place on shelves too close to the ceiling go out after a second, and my fire pits are usually fine, but if I put a floor tile over them they go out almost immediately.

All the ones I have that have plenty of room above them are fine, though.
