Or transport a shi!load of lvl 1 items moving back and forth a few times. All to avoid the fun of simply driving your boat with a full load of ore for a few minutes. 🤷‍♂️

It's not just about that, it's also about "Compressing" the metal too. A Single Iron Cuirass at level 4 is 2 full stacks of iron. So you save 99.9% of the weight and 1 slot by compressing it to a lvl 4 cuirass. You effectively quadruple your ore capacity, so yes, people are doing exactly what you said, but not under your reductionist reasoning.
