You can just use the console to give yourself back all your gear.

I was hosting a server and the game crashed while we were all travelling through the ocean. When I loaded the server back up we had lost 20 minutes of progress and our langskip, so all of my friends were just floating in the ocean where the boat was right before the crash.

Early access or not... I don't think the devs can work around server disconnects or other issues outside of the game.
