i think i am also seeing the change you're describing.. it's a little hard to tell because the only updated seed i've seen has super high sea level.. lots of drowned terrain hiding under open water all over the place, especially Plains biome.. but the "mix rate" of different biomes or whatever you want to call it does seem higher.. tiny patches of multiple biomes crammed together, especially as you get farther from center..
