you can turn off "invasions" with the new sliders as you wish. no more complain posts allowed now. these settings allow you to do what you want when you want at anytime. no more risk. no more death penalty. no more raids. metal teleport. so can stop makeing these threads for good now.
You underestimate the power of complaining. You know what happened when No Man's Sky added difficulty options? People complained that other people were using them.
I think the loss comes from less community engagement. I have seen several swamp guides, you have the body rescue crew, youtubers giving really nice tips & tricks, relatable memes about plains deathsquito's in trollgear on reddit, etc. I think that all disappears with difficulty sliders.
The game just becomes much more individualistic. If you struggle in the swamp, you won't ask for advice or watch a youtube vid about the swamp. You just lower the difficulty. You won't relate to an otherwise funny meme about deathsquito's since you never experienced that nasty sting and subsequent deathrun in a too early stage.
That being said, it reduces the number of ragequitters and complainers, wich definately is a plus. There will be no tension within the community to either nerf a biome or criticize a nerf. In that sense it's a positive, polarisation among the community is reduced, but at the cost of relatability and a shared sense of comradery and struggle.
On a smaller scale this will probably lead to more discussion amongst your group of friends as to what configuration you can all agree on. Or you just make it hard and let friends new to the game and ignorant of settings suffer 😜
