It is possible to avoid drowning deaths by logging out, and dumping your items into a second world. If you haven't learned to max out food/well rested buff, journey during the day, then portal home at night, that's on you.

Portals exist to cut out the vast majority of pain during a corpse run. Drop a portal INSTANTLY after landing anywhere. Don't take any chances.
