If you don't want to use mods, just know that buildings like Workbenches prevent enemy spawning within it's range. If you space out workbenches in a large field and make sure the Workbench radius'es overlap, you will be able to prevent spawning of all mobs around you indefinitely, given that you stay within that area during things like events. Mobs will try to break the Workbench from outside of your boundary, so you may have to put a tiny house around each one.
