The thing is you do. If you sail around you will notice that sometimes the game has expanded the biomes under the water and it won't be ocean. It is very common. If you get far enough away from land you should be good.

As far as TC altar problem I would enter your seed into the online site that can show you where all three altars are.

Pretty sure i don't have those issues as i've sailed around a lot and the markers for the bosses are accurate on my current seed. found everything with no issues. you can't just say "yes you do"
