The deathsquito literally has 10 hp and can be killed by hitting them ONCE with virtually ANY weapon.

The worst thing you can do is try to run away from them... of COURSE they are going to kill you because you have your back to them, and they fly faster than you can run... FACE them and hit them with whatever weapon you have on you, even a simple torch will work quite nicely (fire makes them explode).


If you are properly prepared, meaning fully fed (with the best foods you can get), and full rested buff and proper armor, they are easily dispatched and not a problem.... If you aren't prepared, or not geared up to be in the plains, then it's totally on YOU.

If its just a matter of getting you stuff back. take supplies to build a bonfire... Bonfires make deathsquitos explode and die when they get close to it.... Set fire, lure the squito to it, watch it die then grab your gear... simple as that.
