Wouldn't effect gameplay and people who wanted to support development could do so.
like hair styles, stuff like that

edit add - not to remove anything they plan on added to the game already.. just to augment stuff like more color options on shields for example.
No cosmetic paid DLC, that crap is absolutely useless. With modding capabilities for the game right now custom cosmetics are possible. I would pay for content/feature expansions however...but as of right now it's early access, so at this current time it makes zero sense until the game is full released anyway.
