So for example, if an attack makes you take 50 damage every second for 5 seconds and you tick 3 times before getting hit again, then the 20 remaining damage is added to the incoming 50 and you now take 70 damage over 5 seconds. The duration is reset and the damage is added. If you got hit 4 times instantly, then theoretically you’d be taking 200 damage over 5 seconds.

At least that’s how I understand it.
