I wish gear is less linear in the way we acquire them, and more on how we would like to play our characters. For example, in ESO, you can wear anything for any class, but of course, for a magic user, it's better to wear mostly light and some medium. For nightblades, better to wear medium and maybe some light or heavy. So in the case for Valheim, perhaps if you want to go primarily ranged with some melee for basic defense, then you would wear mostly hides and chain mail, but for those who wish to tank/melee DPS, then a mix of chain, scale, and plates?

Well I know this is supposed to be vikings' stuffs. My brain drifted to full plate armour of the middle ages... ^_^
